Sale is located in Gippsland between the main towns of Bairnsdale and Tarralgon. It is about 212km from Melbourne. Sale has an historic port that has been well preserved and is linked to the Gippsland Lakes and the Thomson River that leads to the open sea.
Sale town center runs along Raymond Street and into Cunninghame Street. There is a large clock tower situated here. Sale has historic buildings that are located in the town center, which includes the Historical Museum that was the former municipal offices in Foster Street.
The Criterion Hotel is in York Street and is one of Victoria's oldest Hotels dating to 1865.
Lake Guthridge Parklands cover more than 35 hectares and have sporting facilities and a botanic garden. The park is at the corner of York Street and Foster Street.
The Swing Bridge that was built to connect Melbourne to Sale was constructed in 1883 and was designed to allow boats to travel through. It is a pedestrian bridge today.
