Albury-Wodonga is a twin city on the Murray River border between New South Wales and Victoria.

Albury-Wodonga

Albury is on the New South Wales side and Wodonga, the smaller of the two, on the Victorian side. Albury to the north and Wodonga to the south. Albury is 572km south west of Sydney.

The original inhabitants were the Wiradjuri Aboriginal tribe. Wodonga was established in 1837 with the arrival of Paul Huon.

Albury has many civic sites, parks and gardens and river cruises are possible on the paddlesteamer PS Cumberoona.


Albury Regional Art Gallery
A major regional art gallery with a diverse range of exhibitions and a collection of 17th & 19th century paintings along with some Chinese, Tibetan and Pacific artifacts. 546 Dean Street (02 6051 3480).



Albury Regional Museum
There is a collection of local history artifacts in this former hotel that was built in 1884. The museum is home to the "Bonegilla Collection" which details the Bonegilla migrant reception and training centre in Wodonga District where migrants came to after relocating at the end of World War 2. Wodonga Place (02 6021 4550).



Botanical Gardens
A collection of native and exoctic plants and heritage walks. Wodongal Place and Dean Street.



Corowa
Corowa is 50km west of Albury and birthplace of the Australian Federation in 1893.



Ettamogah Pub
A result of a series of cartoons by Ken Maynard of an Australian drinking establishment. A real one was built on the Hume Highway. There is also another one on the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast.



Jindera
Jindeara is 20km west of Albury and has a Pioneer Museum (02 6026 3622) housed in an old store that belonged to the Wagner family.



Lake Hume
Close to Albury is Lake Hume a large artificial lake with plenty of water sports. The dam was built between 1919 and 1936.



Monument Hill
Located just west of the twin cities and provides great views of the murray and surrounding landscape. Memorial Drive



Murray River
The main sight is the Murray River and is possible to swim in the river.



OZ.E. Wildlife
Kangaroos, reptiles and more with penguin feeding each day. Wagga Road (02 6040 3677)



P.S Cumberoona
This is a replica of an old paddle steamer which takes cruises up the river daily (02 6041 5558).
