European settlement of Coonawarra goes back to 1890 when John Riddoch subdivided 2000 acres of his vast landholding for orchards and vine yards. The area`s terra rossa soil and dedicated viticulturalists and wine makers combine to produce award-winning white and red table wines.
Coonawarra Wineries – Wine region in the south east of South Australia famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon. There are many wineries in this area with a cellar door. You can sample many local wines and stock up as well as buying fresh produce grown locally. There are several fine restaurants serving quality cuisine as well as local bakeries etc for a quick snack on the run. Combine all this with various accommodation options and this area has much to offer. Paula Duggan
