Heathcote is in central Victoria approximately 40km south east of Bendigo and 110km north of Melbourne
. Heathcote is a name that is recognised as being a producer of the excellent Shiraz wine. There are many vineyards that are dotted all over the land and many of these are with cellar doors. A wine trip is an excellent to sample this extraordinary Shiraz.
Within the town of Heathcote itself there is a High Street that contains a long tree lined boulevard. Heriott Street has the Camp Hill Jail which was built in 1861 and the hospital has a sandstone structure that dates to 1859.
Barbecue Facilities are available at Barrack Reserve, which has McIvor's Creek running through it.
Mount Ida just of the Northern Highway offers excellent views while the Viewing Rock Lookout can be reached from Range Drive gives views of the town.
Victoria's fourth largest reservoir is Lake Eppalock which is a very popular place for fishing, boating and swimming. It also boasts a caravan park with camping facilities.
