Mount Beauty is located 346km from Melbourne at the southern end of the Kiewa Valley. It is at the base of Mount Bogong which is Victoria's highest mountain.
Mount Beauty was originally established in the 1940s and has become a popular tourist destination and is 30km from Falls Creek and close to Mount Buffalo and Mount Hotham.
Sullivans Lookout gives great views as does the lookouts along the Tawonga Gap.
The town center has specialty shops along Holland Street and Kiewa Crescent. There is a popular recreation area at Mount Beauty Pondage with walking tracks and picnic areas.
The Alpine Discovery Center is located just west of the town center and gives an insight into the area.
Slippery Rock Creek is a waterfall on the Bogong High Plains Road.
Bogong Village is along the same road and was built into the side of the mountain. The road leads to the Alpine Resort of Falls Creek.
