Nowra is the principal town of the Shoalhaven district which is a popular tourist area on the south coast. Bomaderry is on the northern side of the river.

Historic Houses Trust Property Meroogal built in 1885 is situated at the corner of Worrigee and West Streets. Shoalhaven Historical Museum is located at the corner of Plunkett and Kinghorne Streets inside the old police station. Shoalhaven River has cruise facility on MV Christine which departs from Nowra wharf and River View Road. Nowra Animal Park is located on the Rockhill Road. In the month of October Spring festival is conducted.

There are many beautiful beaches within 30 km of town. Cambewarra Estate Winery is located 5 km to the north on Ilaroo Rd. Australian Naval Aviation Museum is located 7 km South West at HMAS Albatross. Cambewarra lookout is present approximately 12 km to the North West; this lookout provides spectacular views of Shoalhaven River. At Kangaroo Valley 23 km to the North West historic Buildings are present. There are many more attractions in and near Nowra.
